YES-O INTENSIFIES SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT THROUGH TRASHFORMERS

For School Year 2018-2019, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) will be implementing a project called "Trashformers"

The Project Trashformers primarily aims to (a) strengthen the zero waste campaign of the school; (b) inculcate the culture of waste segregation; and (c) help our students to lessen their expenses.

The Trashformer project is a Solid Waste Management Incentive System which converts students' recyclable wastes into school supplies. (i.e. 5 pcs of plastic bottles per one ball pen or 50 pcs. scratch papers for a new notebook)

Currently, the organization is looking for sponsors of school supplies that will be given to the students. This project is not an Income Generating Project (IGP) since the value of school supplies will be exchanged in a cheaper value of recyclable wastes.

"Talagang ang goal lang namin dito ay makahikayan ng mga bata na mag segregate ng basura. Actually lugi kami dito kasi ang isang ballpen ay worth Php 7.00 tapos ang isang sako naman ng plastic bottles ay tatlong piso lang. So, lumalabas po talaga na gusto lang namin makatulong upang mabawasan ang basura ng school" said Norie Bautista, YES-O President, when asked about the project.

The Project TRASHFORMERS is set to launch during the 2nd YES-Orientation.
